Subscription, Not Surveillance

Yes! Every Adieuu account starts on the free tier at no cost. Free accounts can send and receive text messages and GIFs, make voice calls (audio only), join DMs and groups via invite, set an avatar, and use all encryption, MFA, and privacy features. Message history is limited to the last 14 days.

Paid plans unlock media uploads, video calls, custom emoji, themes, and more. If you want paid features but can't afford a subscription, visit the Sponsorships tab (under Subscriptions after logging in) to request a community-sponsored upgrade. Anyone in the community can sponsor you (anonymously or otherwise), and periodically the Adieuu team will also grant sponsorships.

When you purchase a subscription, the price you pay will be grandfathered (won't be increased) for up to two years following the end of the lower-priced term, as long as you maintain the subscription. Example: If you purchased an annual sub today (2026), and the price for the same sub went up tomorrow, as long as you maintained your subscription with no interruptions you'd keep today's renewal price until this day in 2029. While we do expect prices to go up over time (though when we do so we'll be as transparent as we can, and provide prior notice), we'll continue to keep our prices as low as we can, especially for our Access subscription.

Our current subscription pricing is specifically priced at amounts we feel covers an average user's activity over the course of a year, plus some room for overhead (some users use more or less than others). There's additional overhead for business operations (fun fact: even just existing as a legal entity costs money, even with no revenue!), and a tiny bit of further overhead for us to potentially grow the team (though it's a small enough margin it will take a substantial number of users to make new hires a reasonable cost). This is also why we charge annually: we pay Stripe for every transaction. 1 transaction vs 12 transactions saves us a little bit for every user, allowing us to pass those savings to you.

It's worth noting that we do expect a price increase at our 1.0.X launch: lifetime subscriptions will no longer be available, and Insider pricing will likely increase to account for the higher upload and bandwidth costs. If Access pricing needs to increase, we may look at added a tertiary option with lower upload limits or fewer features to help keep things as affordable as possible. In any case, throughout all of this, we'll have an open discussion with you (the community) and be as transparent as possible.

We view the subscription model as the most transparent and predictable possible model. Our free tier is deliberately lightweight (text, voice, encryption) so the resource footprint stays sustainable without ads or data mining. Paid plans cover the heavier costs of media storage, video bandwidth, and extended history -- keeping everything predictable for us and for you.

Microtransactions (MTX) can be inconsistent, and since message data might exist forever (meaning we pay to store it forever), there would always be pressure on us to add even more microtransactions to make up the cost. Subscriptions are easy: what you see is what you get, and if we do our jobs right, provide value to you, and continue to add the functionality you need, you might renew.

From our viewpoint, subscriptions are one of the only models where there's no potential conflict of interest long-term.

Note: This doesn't mean we won't ever sell one-off items (our legal people told us to never say "never"), but it means it won't ever be something we intend to be a major revenue source. We might do things like fun events, merch, etc, for example.

Vanguard and Founder are one-time purchases that grant you Insider-level access forever, with no recurring charges. You also receive exclusive entitlements that are only available to lifetime members.

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your subscription at any time. Contact our team and we'll handle the change for you. Self-service plan management is coming soon.

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. We accept major credit and debit cards. Additional payment methods may be available depending on your region.

Grans on your code! To enter a promo code, login or create an Account. If logged into an Alias, you'll want to logout and sign back into your Account. Hover over your account settings menu, and select 'Subscription'. In the first tab on the Subscription page ('Manage'), scroll past the Compare Plans section and you should see a place to enter your promo code.

Promo codes in Adieuu are given out periodiocally and can be used to redeem a variety of things - discounts, subscriptions, or exclusive entitlements.

If you cancel an annual subscription, you keep your paid features until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account moves to the free tier: you can still send text messages, make voice calls, and use all encryption and privacy features, but media uploads, video, and extended message history are no longer available.

Lifetime purchases are permanent and never expire.
