Warrant Canary
United Kingdom
We do not publish a warrant canary for United Kingdom. That is because the law there does not allow the kind of statement a canary makes, not because this page is being used as a warning.
Why there is no canary
Due to local regulations regarding telecommunications and national security, we are legally prohibited from publishing transparency metrics regarding the existence or non-existence of secret government data requests in this jurisdiction.
Relevant governing legislation includes the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (UK). Section 54 & Section 255: Contains strict 'tipping-off' offences. A company can face severe penalties for directly or indirectly signalling that a warrant or decryption order has been served.
Relevant legislation
Below we've added links to relevant legislation, for your convenience. These are not exhaustive, and you should always consult with a lawyer if you have questions about the law in your jurisdiction.
Where we do publish canaries
Jurisdictions where a canary is legally available are listed in the directory. Those pages are the ones to watch for a missed update.
